AYRSHIRE’S NEW ASSOCIATION
19th December, 1963
After a meeting between professional and amateur golfers an Ayrshire Winter Golf Association has been formed which will organise competitions throughout the county during the winter months. Invitations are being sent to members of Ayrshire clubs to join the association.
The competitions will start early in the new year and continue regularly during the remaining winter months.
Mr R.B. Louden, Secretary & Treasurer of the association, said that to clarify any misunderstanding which may have arisen the association emphasise that its objectives do not in any way conflict with those of any other organisation.
Mr A.C. Cockburn (Turnberry) is the association’s Captain and W.M. Hastings, the Barassie professional, is the Vice Captain.
The committee consists of Mr. W.C. Sweet (Troon), Mr H. Beveridge (Irvine), Mr J.K. Wyllie (Prestwick St Nicholas), Mr R.S. Jamieson (Turnberry) and Mr W.J. Henderson (Troon).
Membership will be confined to professionals and members of bona fide clubs in Ayrshire. The handicap limit for amateurs will be 18. The annual membership subscriptions have been fixed at £2 for professionals and amateurs and £1 for assistant professionals.
