Devlin, Henderson hang tough

Despite the testing conditions West Kilbride’s Joe Devlin won the season-opening fixture at Dundonald Links, while Renaissance pro Neil Henderson secured the professional prize.

Devlin won the amateur competition with a nett 75 after a count back secured the win over Kirkintilloch’s Colin Peddie and Neal Stewart from Haggs Castle, who shared second place.

A great turnout for the opening fixture saw 53 amateurs tee it up at next year’s Scottish Open venue.

Henderson’s victory came courtesy of his four-under-par 68 in a round that contained two even nines of 34. he won by two strokes from Kilmalcolm’s Mike Paterson.
